Certain business immigration restrictions are about to expire
The outgoing administration put several immigration restrictions in place in 2020 with the explanation that these policies will preserve jobs for American workers. However, certain restrictions on business immigration could open the door for qualified individuals to enter Florida soon for job opportunities. However, supporters of immigration reform want the restrictions to be extended.
They started in April when limitations on the number of certain types of green cards were placed. Later, restrictions were made for education exchange visitor visas, H-1B tech worker visas, H-2B seasonal worker visas and other business or education-related visas. There were exemptions allowed for cases involving national interest, military service or health care providers. These restrictions coincided with strict limitations put in place on travel in the name of public health interests.
Companies and other economic leaders decried these polices and restrictions, claiming that by limiting business immigration, the net effect was harming America’s diversity. Others claimed it harmed the country’s ability to meet its economic needs. While there are some who do want these limitations to remain in place, there is no clear indication that they will be extended.
If the business immigration limitations expire, it could mean there will be the opportunity for more qualified workers to enter the country at some point in the future. It is not clear what the outgoing administration’s intentions are at this point, nor is it clear what the incoming Biden administration will do with existing immigration limitations. In the meantime, immigrant hopefuls and their families will find it helpful to work with an experienced Florida immigration law attorney.
