The naturalization process is more difficult due to test changes

Becoming a citizen of the United States is not an easy process for someone from another country. It’s a complex maze of paperwork, meeting requirements, submitting to interviews and, finally, passing a test. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services recently announced that the department will revise the portion of the test pertaining to civics and the function of the U.S. government. The revised version of the test will be given to candidates who apply for naturalization after Dec. 1, 2020.

The USCIS stated they have been trying to update certain parts of the test since 2018. The department worked with certain individuals, including experts in adult education, to revise the test and update questions. A spokesperson for the USCIS stated they wanted the test to be fair and the process to be as transparent as possible. Updates include more questions in the test portion, as well as more questions to be answered in the interview portion.
